The Toilet Home

Sim Jae-duck, the founder of the Korea Toilet Association has recreated a life size toilet shaped home worth $1.1million.Sim’s mother believed that people born in restrooms were more likely to live a long and prosperous life , this led to his birth in a public toilet!Sim created his two story eclectic home in an attempt to highlight the importance of ‘toilet hygiene’ and sanitation. The south Korean entrepreneur even offers stays in his home if visitors are willing to donate a whopping $50,000 to The world Toilet Association.’

The Guitar home

Located in Fayetteville, Georgia and owned by country and western singer Elvis Carden is this eccentric musical homage! With his guitar home, his album, ‘Living in an old guitar’ and his record label,’Guitar house records’ I am starting to see a pattern emerge!

The shell

This home was constructed by Mexican architect Javier Senosiain and is located in the heart of Mexico City! It resembles a shell and looks a bit like something you would see in a dark Tim Burton film!

The underground home

This underground home is situated in Ksiazenice, Poland and was designed by architects KWK Promes. The minimalistic home is perfect for it’s rock star resident , with only a peek of window being visible above ground!

The small house

Situated in Conwy, Wales the world’s tiniest home is an unbelievable 5.49m in total. Local fisherman, Robert Jones, who ironically was a massive 6ft 3 , lived there up until 1900.

Eventually the local council deemed the modest little home as unsuitable for living and Robert was no longer allowed to live there!

Shame

The Boeing 727 house

Located in Mississippi, USA this realistic Boeing727 Model was bought by Joanne Ussary for $2000.00 but with costs of 4,000,00 to move and $24,000,00 to renovate this little venture set her back hundreds of thousands of US dollars. But with a Jacuzzi in the Cockpit and remote control stairs I would say it was well worth it!

The cubes

These futuristic little cubes homes were designed by architect Piet Blom in the mid eighties. These bizarre structures are located in Rotterdam and consist of approximately 100square meters, but due to the angled ceiling, ¼ of this space is unusable!

Because of the constant passers-by and their fascination of the homes, a show home has been constructed to offer visitors tours of these remarkable buildings.

There are 38 small cube homes and two ‘super cubes.’ All consisting of three floors, with the top floor often being used as a small garden.

Extraordinary.

The Eliphante art house

This fabulous rural building was owned by artists Leda Livant and Michael Kahn. The man made structure is located in AZ, USA and was created from scratch by the couple who ran a non profit arts organisation in the 1980’s. The home gets its name from the trunk like entrance and is a maze of shacks, follies and stunning domes!

Since Michael’s death last year, Leda has continued to run tours of her spectacular art house!

The  Forest Spiral (Darmstadt, Germany)

This beautiful structure consists of 105 individual apartments that wrap around the courtyard and running stream. The building even has a restaurant and cocktail bar in the south east turret.

The building is fairly new, only being completed in 2000 , it was designed by famous Austrian architect and painter, Friedensreich Hundertwasser . He was known for his contemporary and cutting edge designs that were based around irregular and organic forms!

Reversible Destiny Lofts – Mitaka, Japan

This childlike and lighthearted block is situated in Mitaka, Japan have been created to make home an inspiring and exciting environment as opposed to a relaxing one. These views are conveyed through Japanese architect, Shusaku Arakawa’s eclectic colour mix, curved walls and playground feel.

Other than creating an invigorating and pleasing aesthetic, the idea of these homes is to prolong the lives of the residents, the space is aimed at coaxing people to live for an indefinite period of time??
